July 4th Is Almost Here

I have made my last trip out of the house for a few days. The tourists are pouring into town for the holiday weekend. Traffic is getting bad. The grocery store shelves will be stripped by tomorrow afternoon. There won't be a table available at any restaurant in town, even the bad ones. There will be a cloud of barbecue smoke hanging over the beaches.

I've got all the shopping done and I'm ready to relax and enjoy the spectacle. I think I should start researching to find the best fat burner. I am going to need it after this weekend because we are planning to contribute to the smoke cloud with ribs and chicken. I love smoked fat. LOL

A Snake, Really?

I am dumbfounded right now. I read an article about a snake killing a 2 year old baby here in Florida. A BABY. The stupidity of some people is mind boggling. How could anyone be careless enough to have a snake that large in a house with a small child. Don't they know what snakes do? There is so much wrong with this that I don't even know what to say right now.

It's the Season

I had forgotten that summer is the prime season for weddings. At least, I had forgotten until I found a couple of wedding invitations in my mail box. What is amazing is that my cousins and friends now have children old enough to be getting married. We're not supposed to be that old, we're supposed to stay young. Since I moved to Florida and don't see them very often, they are all still young in my mind. :)

Fighting the Birds

I have been thinking about making some patio furniture covers. I'm tired of the birds using the furniture on the top deck for their own purposes. Of course, the question is when do I think I will have time to do it. I was super proud of myself for taking the time to make shorts out of a pair of slacks the other day. LOL My poor sewing machines are very neglected lately. Working full time is a real time killer.

I'm a Little Creeped Out

I do article writing for website and the topics I write about are varied. As long as they are paying me, I don't care. :) But I have to admit I was creeped out by an article I wrote last week. The subject itself wasn't creepy, it was about burial at sea. I have nothing against that. But what got me going were the regulations. Did you know that the only requirements are that it be at least 3 nautical miles from shore and at a depth of at least 600 feet? If they are burying people at sea a few miles off shore I'm surprised all the fishermen around here don't pull them up. Or that they don't eventually wash ashore. All I can say is...ewww.

Speaking of the Beach

Talking about the tourists arriving made me think about my bathing suit situation. Ugh. I'd like to hit the beach this year but there are things going on that even the best diet pills can't cure. I never realized all of the things that getting older can do to your body. Who knew about wrinkled knees and other unmentionable things? I'm kind of wishing fashion would go back to those bathing suits they used to wear in the 20's with sleeves and legs down to your knees.

They're Back

The tourists seem to be arriving in droves. Everywhere I go is to be crowded. I made the mistake of trying to go to the supermarket Sunday. I could hardly find a parking space for all of the out of town cars. I tell myself it's a good things. The local economy as well as the makers of swimsuits, tanning lotion and diet pills like Apidexin all make money when people go to the beach. I need to get back into the habit of running errands early in the morning before they get going.

The Catch of the Day

I just read about a fisherman off Panama City Beach who's catch of the day sounds frightening. He pulled up an air to air guided missile. And it was live! What is even worse is that he kept it on his boat for 10 days and traveled back to the Clearwater area with it. Once he finally called officials, they detonated it saying it was too dangerous to transport. I don't think I'd want to go out with him if that's the way he thinks.

The Things You See

I made my usual trip to Goodwill yesterday. Clothes are half off on Mondays in our area. I started going there to find fabric to use but I soon realized that there were some great clothes there. I now have lots of cute things from Talbots and other brands.

I also enjoy looking around at everything else people donate. They have everything from packages of disposable diapers, to crutches, to smokers and grills. We were recently discussing needing a car top luggage holder. I went to Goodwill and bingo, there it was. $40 instead of $400. I love it.

Father's Day Is Coming

Father's Day is coming in a couple of weeks. I have been trying to come up with something for my husband. He is such a music nut I am thinking about getting him one of those satellite radios. I have seen him look at them when we're at Best Buy. He always has the stereo on when he's working outside. He also likes to listen to talk radio, I know there's tons of talk shows available. I think I may have just talked myself into it.

Such Sad News

I heard about the 12 year sentence the two American journalists received. 12 years in prison in north Korea is probably like a life sentence here. I also heard that their leader has said that if someone from the American government comes over and apologizes for sending the women to spy on him he will let them go. This guy is such a nut bag. Too bad it's always ones like him who live forever.

Giving the Kitchen a Face Lift

My husband and I are thinking about giving the kitchen a face lift. We have been here 6 years and it is looking a little worn. I think we have both agreed that tiling the back splash would be a good move. Now we will just have to agree on what tile to use. My first choice would be glass tile. I think he is leaning more towards ceramic. Hopefully we will be able to come to an agreement. We usually do.

A Glorious Day

It is absolutely a glorious day outside today. The skies are crystal clear, it's 77 degrees right now and there's a pleasant breeze. I didn't even need to open the umbrella when I went out to the deck for my morning coffee today. I am working on some outdoor pillows that I hope to finish today. I would like to have them ready so that we can enjoy dinner outside this evening.

Tough Little Dogs

I always knew little dogs were tough, the chihuahua I had when I was a child would take on anybody. I just read where a chihuahua and a border terrier warded off an attach by a mountain lion. The big cat came into their yard and the two guys defended their territory. It pinned the border terrier but the chihuahua's barking convinced the mountain lion to release him and leave. Both dogs are fine. Those are two tough little dogs.

Happy Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day weekend is here and the tourists are arriving. Unfortunately, the weather isn't very good. There are supposed to be showers off and on all weekend. From a local business stand point that can be a good thing. The local outlet mall gets so busy that the traffic backs up for blocks when it rains. The number one thing for tourists to do when it rains is shop! :)

We don't have anything exciting planned. Smoking a few things in the smoker and looking for a life insurance quote will probably be the highlight of the weekend. Exciting, huh?
